LOCAL metal band My Own Enemy will spend a day recording tracks at Hallam studio Pony Music, after winning the 2008 FReeZA Battle of the Bands competition.
The group, comprised of five members from Narre Warren, Dandenong and Pakenham, will also compete in Spectrum Entertainment’s Live ‘n’ Loud gig in November, and the regional finals of the band competition next year.
My Own Enemy is made up of 19-year-old vocalist Daniel Tosh, bass guitarist Josh Durdin, 17, drummer Brad Irving, also 17, and guitarists Wade Comely and Scott Marek, both 20.
My Own Enemy won the Battle of the Bands title after beating other groups Francis Dolarhyde, Blood Union, With Wings From Above, The Solomons and Human Jack in a tense final on 25 July.
Durdin said winning the competition was a big break for the band.
“Getting some recording time at Pony Music is going to be great, we’ll have time to record one or two tracks,” he said.
“We lost the Battle of the Bands final by one point last year, so it was awesome to win it this time.”
My Own Enemy has been a band for three years, and is described by Durdin as a cross between US metal band Trivium and Australian metalcore group Parkway Drive.
“We started taking things seriously a year ago, and we’ve got some gigs lined up,” Durdin said.
“One day, we hope to sign on with an Indy label, and eventuallytour with some headline groups.”
