A MAN was thrown 30 metres from his vehicle and air-lifted to the Royal Melbourne Hospital in a critical condition after rolling his car the South Gippsland Highway in Lynbrook on Saturday morning.
The 23-year-old man was the only occupant of the maroon Honda, and was ejected from the car during the incident, which occurred around 3.30am.
Advanced life support paramedics from Cranbourne, intensive care paramedics from Hampton Park and the ambulance helicopter were called to the intersection of South Gippsland Highway and Hallam Road.
Intensive care paramedic manager Brendan Webster said his team arrived to find the car had rolled, causing extensive damage.
“The driver was thrown from the car and was found about 30 metres away,” he said.
“A neck brace was fitted, given the potential for spinal injuries.”
A drip was put in the man’s arm, and he was given pain relief and fluids to help stabilise his condition.
“The man was then given a combination of drugs to sedate and paralyse him, enabling us to put a breathing tube into his lungs, so we could breathe for him,” Mr Webster said.
“He was flown by the ambulance helicopter to the Royal Melbourne Hospital in critical condition, suffering head injuries.”
Police are investigating the incident.
