A CRANBOURNE woman has been named the winner of the local Smile with Centro Photography competition.
Lauren Johnson chose a photo of her son Riley, 3, on his motorbike, which she said was his pride and joy, along with his dog, Bud.
The photo followed the Australian trend, with the most popular theme among the 38,000 entries pictures of children and pets, reinforcing a recent AC Nielsen Survey which showed a third of people agreed children and babies most made them smile, and 22 per cent said pets and animals made them smile.
Lauren will receive a Sony Cyber-shot digital camera and printer to the value of $978.
As part of the nation-wide Smile with Centro community photography competition, the 20 Cranbourne finalists are on show at the Centro Cranbourne Shopping Centre until the end of the month.
The winning photo was chosen by an expert judging panel which included internationally renowned photographer Keith Saunders, representatives from Woman’s Day and the Federation of Camera Clubs in New South Wales.
In deciding the winner, Mr Saunders said that the judging panel was looking for a stand out image which was engaging and had wide appeal.
“The pure act of capturing the beauty of something so simple is what really grabbed our attention.
“It is so often that these simple pleasures are the most powerful,” said Mr Saunders.
Marketing manager Sally Curtis for Centro Cranbourne said the standard of photographs entered this year was extremely high and had set a precedent for photography enthusiasts.
“Almost everybody has an amazing photo in their family home or photo album which conjures fond memories of their loved ones, and we have certainly provided a forum for the people of Cranbourne to share that with the rest of the country,” she said.
Centro partnered once again with The Smith Family to raise valuable funds to help make children smile.
