They’re on the bike again for charity

Tony Jenner and Barbara Maggs get ready for the annual Ulysses Club Toy Run.Tony Jenner and Barbara Maggs get ready for the annual Ulysses Club Toy Run.

VOLUNTEERS for the Ulysses Club Toy Run are gearing up to make this year’s 23rd annual fundraising event an even bigger success.
The toy run will leave Cranbourne for Williamstown next week with about 1000 motorcycle riders delivering toys and food to the needy along the way.
Ulyssians Barbara Maggs and Tony Jenner have been organising the Cranbourne Toy Run for more than 21 years, through their own initiative and funding it out of their own pockets.
Ms Maggs said she and Mr Jenner started with just 28 bikes. The event has now grown to one of the biggest toy runs in the country.
They are now asking people for donations of food items, canned or packaged, games, books and toys other than teddy bears and soft stuffed toys.
“There will be a trailer there on the day so people can bring things down,” Ms Maggs said.
All motorbike riders are asked to bring items to donate.
Awards will also be presented before the start of the ride and will include longest distance rider, longest distance 250cc, longest distance pillion, longest distance female, longest distance sidecar and best club attendance.
Riders will assemble at 8am on Sunday, 10 December from the Centro Shopping Centre car park on High Street, Cranbourne.
The toy run will then depart with police escort at 10am and meet up with the MRA Toy Run at Williamstown.
For more information contact Barbara Maggs on 5998 2424.
