TENNIS is roaring ahead at Casey Fields with the latest initiative a program aimed at those who have never played the sport before.
The first two Come and Try Tennis events were held recently at the Casey Fields Tennis Centre and saw about 40 people of various abilities have a go at playing tennis.
City of Casey manager arts and leisure Robyn Bowen said the event was a new initiative to allow people who might not have tried tennis before to gain some experience.
“The new tennis precinct at Casey Fields has accessible courts which enable players both ambulant and of various abilities or in wheelchairs to participate in tennis,” Ms Bowen said.
Casey Fields Tennis Centre head coach Ben Goltz and supporting coaches ensured people had fun and gave them some helpful tips.
The events were supported by coaches, volunteers and Tennis Victoria, which organised giveaways including tennis balls, sunglass holders, wrist bands, polo shirts and hats.
“Tennis is something everyone can take part in and supportive coaching can give a person with a disability the confidence to try something new,” Ms Bowen said.
One-hour lessons are available at Casey Fields Tennis Centre at $10 and can be paid on a per term basis.
For more information contact City of Casey disability leisure officer Barbra Sheppard on 9705 5200.
