CRANBOURNE Secondary College was a hive of activity when parents visited the school for parent/teacher interviews last week.
Anglicare Cranbourne volunteers threw a social barbecue for the parents as part of the school’s Connected Families Strong Communities program as well as displays and guest speakers.
Connected Families Strong Communities Project Officer Debbie Nobbs said the aim of the barbecue was to provide parents and family members with an opportunity to meet and talk with one another to build stronger connections between themselves and the school.
“I have been extremely impressed with the interest shown by staff, students, parents and the community in building stronger connections and becoming involved in a range of projects.
“One of the main issues that parents have complained about is that they don’t know each other as much as they’d like to and this barbecue was an opportunity to connect and feel comfortable at the school,” she said.
Ms Nobbs said the school’s wellbeing staff also organised a drug information display and a representative from the South East Family Services program spoke to parents about support services for families.
“It was a very successful and beneficial day.
“I think the parents got a lot out of it and hope more will now become further involved in the school community,” she said.
