A BLIND Bight girl has been named this year’s Victorian Female Cadet of the Year.
Corporal Stephanie Kraskov, 13, was selected as the leading cadet for her work in the Australian Air League Cranbourne squadron.
Nominated by Squadron Lieutenant David Boyde, Stephanie has also won a flight in a tiger moth plane in Tooradin for winning best cadet in her squadron.
Mr Boyde said Stephanie had grown in strength and wisdom after a rough start to the year last year, and now had the respect of both officers and cadets of Cranbourne.
“She displays all the qualities that the league would like to see,” he said.
“In public she is the perfect ambassador – in uniform, manner and behaviour.
“She has gained the rank of corporal at the age of 13.”
Stephanie will represent Victoria for the title of Australian Air League Cadet of the League in Sydney this year.
The league offers boys and girls aged eight to 18 the opportunity to make new friends, go on camps and outings, learn how to fly, learn model making, leadership skills, competitions, join the band and have lots of fun.
The Cranbourne Squadron has been operating in the community for more than 16 years, participating in the Anzac Day parade, assisting with Red Cross calling and taking part in other civil functions.
In 2009 the league will be 80 years old.
For more information on the squadron contact Officer Commanding Cranbourne Squadron David Boyde on 8790 8115 or 0400 041 800.
