Showers go green

CASEY residents are being offered free showerheads in exchange for their old ones in an effort to help save water.
The City of Casey and South East Water are offering the free exchange from 10am to 1pm on Saturday, 3 February in Narre Warren.
Casey mayor Colin Butler encouraged the community to get on board.
“We all know it has never been more important to save water, so getting a new three-star showerhead valued at $65 for your old one is a great deal for residents,” he said.
Water experts will also be on hand on the day to answer questions about grey water and rainwater tanks.
It is estimated that by using a water efficient showerhead people could reduce their household water and energy bills by as much as $60 and save up to 20,000 litres a year.
The pilot program, developed by South East Water, aims to encourage communities to learn more about water conservation, and save water in their homes, workplaces and schools.
South East Water managing director Dennis Cavagna said that, following significant reductions in water use in the garden, it was time to focus on saving water inside the home.
“With Stage 3 water restrictions now in place, we need to be extremely mindful of how we use water in and around the home,” he said.
Residents need to bring their old showerhead and a recent South East Water Bill.
Renters or tenants will need signed written permission from the property owner. There is a limit of two showerheads per household. They will not work with gravity fed hot water systems.
The event will be held on the Civic Centre lawn area adjacent to the car park at Magid Drive, Narre Warren.
