CRANBOURNE Secondary College students had the school sparkling after Clean Up Australia Day activities last week.
About 200 year seven to nine students braved scorching temperatures on Friday in their efforts to keep the college beautiful.
Students collected 130 bags of rubbish, including almost 4000 individual items, and conducted a litter survey identifying the types and origins of rubbish collected.
Environment coordinator Kjirsten Robb said the statistics would be used to implement future college litter-management policies.
“We can use it to introduce recycling initiatives and work out how to handle our rubbish problem.
“Students put in a great effort on Friday. This year we have two new environmental positions so we are targeting rubbish and recycling as part of an environmental strategy,” she said.
