BOOKWORMS have taken over Hampton Park Primary School!
Students can’t get enough of reading after taking part in the inaugural Premier’s Reading Challenge recently.
The challenge required students from grades three to year nine to read 12 books in six months. Participants were able to choose two of their own books to get stuck into while the other 10 were selected from the Reading Challenge Booklist.
Teacher Denise Porter said students read quite widely from the specified list, choosing adventure, fantasy, historical fiction, humour, drama and informative texts.
She said students who successfully completed the challenge received certificates of achievement signed by Premier Steve Bracks.
“The children were excited by the challenge and really enjoyed reading the books.
“They are looking forward to participating in next year’s challenge,” Ms Porter said. River Gum Primary School in Hampton Park also took part in this year’s challenge.
