A DAY of racing, pacing and chasing will bring the Cranbourne Racecourse alive on Sunday, 19 March when the venue plays host to a huge day of racing action.
The annual City of Casey Tricodes Race Day is an exciting fun family day at the races and will feature 23 races – one race every 15 minutes.
Casey mayor Kevin Bradford is encouraging residents to participate in this spectacular event, which has become a tradition in Casey.
“The City of Casey Tricodes Race Day showcases one of the few racecourses in the world that accommodates the three codes of racing – gallops, harness and greyhounds,” he said.
“It also highlights the popularity and importance of our local racing industry, particularly in terms of the economic and tourism benefits it can bring to an area such as Cranbourne.”
Cr Bradford was also pleased with the condition of the course, which he recently visited to promote the event.
“The track looks terrific, and in addition to the 23 races on the day, there will be a range of children’s activities and food stalls to attract families and punters alike for a great day at the races,” he said.
Cr Bradford acknowledged the efforts of former Cranbourne Turf Club chief executive Yvonne Blackwood who jointly oversees the running of the day with harness club chief executive Jacquie Gluck and greyhound racing club chief executive Tony Wright.
“With three sets of stewards, race-callers, judges and countless other officials of the three codes, successfully working together on this event is a credit to all concerned,” Cr Bradford said.
Admission to the Tricodes Race Day is $12 for adults and $8 for concession card holders.
Children under 18 are admitted free.
Gates will open at 10.30am with the first race scheduled for 11.20am.
