Race crowd united for picnic

THE annual Trade Union Family raceday at Cranbourne on Sunday attracted a bumper crowd of almost 8000 people, creating a happy, family atmosphere in perfect spring weather.
A great afternoon’s racing was complemented by events including professional footraces on the track between horse races together with live music and a variety of children’s activities.
The day is one of the most popular meetings on the Cranbourne Turf Club calendar with the gambling turnover up on previous years both on and off course.
Trades Hall Council officials were thrilled with the day and said that the union movement was proud to be part of such an event which was aimed at families and working people.
The meeting was held on a goodrated track and well supported by local and metropolitan trainers with Cranbournetrained horses winning four of the nine races.
Berwick jockey Matthew Allen shared the day’s riding honours with Nash Rawiller with both completing a double.
