THE speedo cables and assembly were taken from two cars at the ACT Group Clearance Centre in Cranbourne last week.
The theft took place some time between 6pm on Thursday, 4 and 7am on Friday, 5 August at the High Street car auction centre.
It is believed the items were taken from a limited edition Holden station wagon and a Ford sedan, both of which were parked under floodlights and clearly visible from the road.
The thieves smashed the windscreens and dismantled the dashboard to take the parts, worth an estimated $500.

POLICE are investigating an attempted burglary at a house in Devon Meadows on Friday.
It is believed the owner of the Meadow Road property returned home to see a white Toyota tray truck, registration number DKH 193, parked in the driveway and two men walking from the back of the house.
The owner approached the men and was told they were looking for someone in relation to the sale of pigeons. They then drove off.
The owner discovered the rear door of the house had been forced open but nothing was stolen.
Police have confirmed that the car used in the incident had been stolen from Lilydale the day before.
The first man is described as being in his early 30s, with black hair, approximately 175cm tall, unshaven, with olive complexion and of slim build.
The second man is described as being in his mid 20s, approximately 172cm tall, with brown hair, fair complexion, athletic build and wearing a grey Tshirt.

VANDALS are continuing their spree on cars in Hampton Park.A green Toyota light van was the latest vehicle to be attacked while it was parked in the driveway of an Ashford Close home overnight on Friday, 5 and Saturday, 6 August.
The owner of the car woke to find the van covered in shaving cream, talcum powder and black spray paint.
It is estimated the repair bill will be about $500.

POLICE are looking for witnesses to a car fire in Cranbourne South on 31 July.
It is believed a white Commodore was stolen from Blenheim Place in Frankston and was found burnt out the next day in Langley Road in Cranbourne South outside the entrance to the pony club.
The car was valued at around $4000.
