A DEVON Meadows boy is top of the field when it comes to cricket and football.
Jason Pongracic, 12, has made the Victorian Primary School Sports Association (VPSSA) cricket team after being selected from hundreds of kids around the state to make the final 13.
He will now represent the state in the under-13 national competitions.
The Devon Meadows Primary School student featured at the Boxing Day test match when the team was present with a Victorian cricket cap at the MCG during the lunch break.
Devon Meadows Primary School media liaison officer Amber Crawford said early last year every school in Victoria was invited to send up to three boys to a regional trial with each of the 16 regions then choosing three of those children to go to the state trials.
Selectors then viewed the final 48 boys throughout last year in practice matches.
That group was eventually cut down to a team of 13. The Victorian team will compete in the national championships early this year.
Jason keeps himself busy playing for Merinda Park Cricket Club – he captains the under-13 team, and plays in the under-15s on Saturdays and seniors on Saturday afternoons.
He is also a football star. Jason previously played in the VPSSA under-12 AFL football team, representing Victoria in championships in both Canberra and Darwin.
He has left the competitions with a swarm of best player awards.
Jason was recently presented with a signed bat on making the cricket team which was presented publicly to him in front of his school.
The star athlete will start studying at Kooweerup Secondary College this year.
