PEARCEDALE Primary School provided a world of colour at the Junior Rock Eisteddfod Challenge at the Vodafone Arena last week.
The school was named the friendliest school for the fourth year in a row as the kids not only danced and sang their way to the top but also cheered on their peers as well.
The school’s Rock Eisteddfod dance teacher and choreographer Katie Davies said the performance, involving 113 senior students, told the story of a neighbourhood where everything was black and white until a colourful family moved into town.
One brave girl decides to show the new family around and slowly but surely everyone discovers their true colours.
Ms Davies said the performance was about accepting diversity.
It appeared the message got across with the school taking out the award for concept in the non-competitive event, as well as awards for excellence in choreography and costuming character.
“It was awesome,” Ms Davies said. “The kids have been practising since February. The whole day was fun and filled with activities. The kids had a ball watching the other performances and meeting other kids.”
The special also won the Gemma Dale Award of Excellence, awarded to the school voted by the other schools as the friendliest and most helpful and who showed the best spirit on the day.
Ms Davies thanked the students, teachers, parents and community members for all their hard work throughout the year.
