CRANBOURNE will receive a much-needed facelift to help shape the town centre.
Casey Council recently decided to adopt the Cranbourne Town Centre Structure Plan.
Casey mayor Kevin Bradford said the Cranbourne town centre was identified in the State Government’s Melbourne 2030 plan as one of the principal activity centres of Melbourne.
“Cranbourne will see large scale growth and development as its population triples in the next 20 years,” Cr Bradford said.
“The adoption of the Cranbourne Town Centre Structure Plan is an important step in providing a future planning and development framework, guiding principles and key actions that will help shape Cranbourne as a principal activity centre of Melbourne.”
Following community consultation and an exhibition period of the draft plan in late 2005/early 2006, the Cranbourne Town Centre Structure Plan was revised based on public feedback prior to its adoption by the council.
Cr Bradford and fellow Mayfield Ward councillor Steve Beardon have endorsed the plan, which highlights the importance of the construction of the Cranbourne Bypass and the Cranbourne East Railway Station.
The town centre structure plan looks at improving transport infrastructure, restructuring land uses and implementing landscaping initiatives.
Some major initiatives include improving the pedestrian amenity of High Street, extensive business growth, a new north-south street called The Avenue, underground powerlines in High Street and major streetscape works.
