AN 18YEAROLD man was killed when he hailed for help after crashing into a tree in Pearcedale on Monday.
Lang Lang teenager Nicholas Gregorovich was hit by another car as he assessed the damage to his own vehicle on TyabbTooradin Road about 6am.
Police said the victim’s car was stationary on the side of the road facing south when a car stopped on the opposite side of the road facing north to give assistance.
“We believe a blue Holden travelling south was blinded by the headlights of the car that had stopped on the other side of the road and didn’t see the victim’s car.
“The blue Holden has then hit the rear of the victim’s car and pushed it into him,” Sergeant Pat McGavigan of Casey Traffic Management Unit said.
He said the crash caused a domino effect as three other vehicles collided.
“Another car collided into the back of the blue Holden while one of the cars spun out, side swiping a red Ford that was travelling in the opposite direction.
“A white Hyundai has then clipped one of those cars,” he said.
Metropolitan Ambulance Service spokeswoman Liana Cross said the teenager died at the scene while the drivers of the other cars were uninjured.
“The man died at the scene despite the best efforts of crews to save him.
“The other drivers were treated for minor injuries at the scene. Noone was taken to hospital,” she said.
Police blocked the road for around four hours while the scene was cleared.
Sergeant McGavigan said noone had been charged with the collision but police were still investigating.
He urged drivers to be cautious of drivers stopped on the side of the road and take care when driving in the dark.
“If someone has stopped on the side of the road be aware that there is probably a reason that they have stopped.
“Be aware there could be danger ahead,” he said.
