Lions club backs fire victims

THE Cranbourne Lions Club has expressed support for its fellow Lions members who lost their homes in recent Gippsland fires.
Fires at Cowwarr and Toongabbie destroyed 22 homes in the two small towns.
Cranbourne Lions Club president Diane Barker said Lions District 201V3, which includes the Cranbourne area, had set up a District 201V3 Disaster Relief Appeal to help get the townspeople of Cowwarr and Toongabbie back on their feet.
Mrs Barker said the relief committee was in the recovery process and the first thing to do would be fencing and major works for the landowners.
“It has been quite traumatic for families living up there,” she said.
Donations can be sent via local Lions Clubs in District 201V3 District at www.lionsclubs.org.au or via the Lions Club of Cranbourne president Diane Barker on 5996 2986 or send to PO Box 201, Cranbourne, 3977.
Mrs Barker also said the Lions Village Licola Camps for January had gone ahead but had been hit with water supply shortage due to the low level of the river and filtration problems associated with the recent fires.
Water had been brought into the camp in support of the campers and volunteers working up there.
“Licola was one of the very lucky towns that was saved by the hard work of the DSE and CFA volunteers who used Licola Camp as a relief base for the firefighters during the recent fires,” she said.
