The Hampton Park school participated in a global campaign supported by the Make Poverty History Coalition.
They were one of many schools, churches, corporations and communities around the world that came together over a 24-hour period to show their support for eradicating extreme poverty through Stand Up, a global event coordinated by the United Nations Millennium Campaign.
This year 91,987 Australians joined more than 23 million people around the world to set a new Stand Up record.
Events were held in 321 locations around Australia. Worldwide 11,646 events were staged in 87 countries.
A spokesperson called it the “largest single-coordinated movement of people in the history of the Guinness World Records”.
Stand Up at Kilberry Valley was coordinated by Megan Coles, a fourth year student teacher who believes it is imperative that students participate in global campaigns, not only to increase their understanding and awareness of global issues, but also to bring together the global community within a school environment.
