MORE than 90 kids took to the bowling green last week, proving lawn bowls is not just for their older peers.
A kids’ fun day at Cranbourne Bowling Club was hugely successful with local kids aged two to 17 trying out the sport for a day.
Ladies auxiliary president Vhonda Bonney said the youngsters had an absolute ball.
“They learnt how to hold the bowl and how to get it from one side to the other,” she said.
“We also had a game where they had to get the bowl closest to a lolly in a circle and whoever got the closest won the lolly.
“Then afterwards we had a sausage sizzle and drinks. It was a lovely kids’ morning. It was thoroughly enjoyable.”
Mrs Bonney said the event showed the sport was not just for senior citizens and encouraged young people to consider taking up lawn bowls.
She said they had already recruited one new member, a 17-year-old boy, since the event.
Mrs Bonney said the crowd was particularly impressed by a two-and-a-half-year-old who had a go at indoor bowls, using a bowl slightly bigger than a tennis ball.
“She was very cute. It was adorable to watch.”
She said everyone joined in on the day, including the parents.
