LOCAL primary school children have ensured Casey’s environmental future is in safe hands.
About 3000 kids learned practical ways to preserve natural resources at the 2007 Casey Environmental Expo at Wilson Botanic Park.
The students discovered eco-friendly alternatives for everyday activities like recycling, using electricity in the home and wise-water usage in the garden.
The Environmental Expo was also a waste-wise event, encouraging students to minimise landfill by using ‘rubbish-free’ food and drink containers.
Casey mayor Colin Butler said the Casey Environmental Expo delivered critical sustainability messages to the city’s youngest residents in a simple and memorable way.
“I look forward to hearing about how these young students have taken the lessons learned and introduced them into their own homes and families,” he said.
“It is critical that we teach our children to value and preserve our environment from a young age so that they develop positive lifelong habits.”
