A GROUP of six-year-olds could not control their excitement when they finally met their secret buddies on Tuesday.
Over the past weeks, year seven students from Hillcrest Christian College have been writing to their anonymous buddies in grade one.
On Tuesday, students at the Clyde North school were treated to a lunchtime unveiling complete with party food, games and streamers.
Year seven teacher Diane Salmon, who came up with the idea, said it was great to see the year seven students serving lunch to their younger buddies.
“It’s great that the older students are communicating and taking an interest in the lives of the younger ones,” Ms Salmon said.
“It makes it all worthwhile when you see them chatting and laughing together and helping each other.”
Ms Salmon said the students had been learning, and hopefully would continue to learn, about serving others, cooperation and being kind to one another.
The children made a full celebration of the day. They played pass the parcel, gave gifts to each other and, more importantly, formed bonds, Ms Salmon said.
