THE Salvation Army Cranbourne is calling on residents to support their Blanket Day and help make winter more bearable for those sleeping in the cold.
Salvation Army manager Hennie Watts said there was a great demand for blankets in the area due to the increasing number of people facing inadequate access to secure housing.
She said tomorrow’s (Friday) appeal was just one way of bringing warmth back into the lives of the hundreds of homeless people across the city.
“We don’t sell blankets in the shop any more,” she said.
“We just give them away at reception because they never make it as far as the shop – they go very quickly.
“We are always accepting donations here and we are confident this Blanket Day will be a success.”
Mayfield Ward councillor Kevin Bradford encouraged all residents to get involved and donate a blanket, doona or quilt to the Salvation Army Support Service at 1 New Holland Drive, Cranbourne.
