A WOMAN was airlifted to hospital following a head-on collision in Hampton Park on Monday night.
Emergency crews used the jaws of life to free the drivers of both cars after the smash about 9.15pm on Hallam Road.
The two cars collided on the crest of a hill between Willow Drive and Pound Road.
It took workers from Dandenong Fire Brigade Rescue more than 40 minutes to remove the trapped drivers.
A 51-year-old Hallam woman was airlifted to The Alfred hospital with serious injuries.
The driver of the other car, a 25-year-old Endeavour Hills man, was taken to The Alfred hospital by ambulance also suffering severe injuries.
The road was closed for about two hours as police cleared the scene.
Police are investigating the cause of the collision, but said speed was not a factor.
