A NATIONAL angling star wants to put Casey Fields on the map by running a fishing challenge at the lake.
Paul Worsteling believes the main lake at Casey Fields, which was recently stocked up with trout, is an ideal place to run the exciting fishing day.
Mr Worsteling said his motivation for establishing a fishing day at Casey Fields was two-fold.
“When I was growing up in Cranbourne there was never anywhere where you could ride your bike to go fishing and Casey Fields now provides this opportunity for kids,” he said.
Mr Worsteling said such an event would also put Casey Fields on the map.
The fishing expert, who has his own television show IFISH on Channel 10, said the day was in its planning stages at the moment but could involve a number of different activities and formats.
Casey mayor Kevin Bradford has backed the idea and is looking to gauge interest in fellow councillors.
One concept that’s been floated is to tag five trout and release them back into the lake – with major prizes going to those who catch the tagged fish.
Mr Worsteling recently attended a similar fishing concept in Tasmania and said it was a great success.
“We filmed down there on the day and there were heaps of people fishing,” he said
The avid angler said it was exciting to have a multimillion-dollar sporting complex in the area and it should be used in several different ways to promote Cranbourne.
“We can even promote the fishing as a different option when people go there to watch cricket or football and other sports.”
Mr Worsteling is hoping Casey Council will jump on board and support the day with prize money and believes it is an ideal way to put Casey Fields in sight of those who would normally not go there.
