VICTORIA’S biggest week of multicultural festivals finished today with the fourth annual Celebrate our Cultural Diversity Week.
Celebrate our Cultural Diversity Week, from March 17 — 23, marked the United Nations International Day for the Elimination of Racism and promoted the right of all Victorians to live without fear of racial and religious discrimination.
Cranbourne MP Jude Perera said more than 300 events were held across the State during the week.
Mr Perera visited the Cranbourne and District Greek Senior Citizens on Monday to acknowledge the contribution the group has made to the local community.
Mr Perera said the State Government has also released a campaign to coincide with the week promoting diversity and mutual respect.
Titled Just Like You, he said the campaign celebrates the diversity and similarities of Victorians.
“The campaign is an important step in recognising, that while Victorians are all proud of their diverse heritage, recent events have made it important to emphasise our cultural diversity.
“In the current international climate it is easy to forget that regardless of cultural or religious differences we all care for our families, value friendship and work together.
“This campaign is a reminder of the everyday things we share. The campaign shows real people, volunteers from the Victorian community, who agreed to be part of this campaign because they believe its message is important,” Mr Perera said.
The Just Like You campaign will run from March 20 until the end of May.
