LYNBROOK residents will receive a new $4 million community centre.
News that the design phase for the longawaited project would start next year was announced at last week’s City of Casey Council meeting, much to the delight of River Gum councillor Wayne Smith.
Cr Smith said the growing area was in desperate need of a meeting place and welcomed the proposal, which would see the centre up and running by 2008.
He said the community centre, to be located within the Lynbrook Activity Centre on South Gippsland Highway, would also include a Family Resource Centre and Community Hall area.
“This is fantastic news,” Cr Smith said.
“It’s something we knew was coming because the area has grown to the size where it needs all these facilities,” he said.
Cr Smith said funds for the design phase had been referred to the Forward Capital Works program for 200607 and, if successful, construction would start in 200708.
“I am confident we will find the funds in next year’s budget and then construction will start soon after,” he said.
