TOORADIN CFA volunteers have called for community support to help complete a much-needed extension to the station.
Captain David Bulman said members had been working around the clock to construct a new shed adjoining the station to house the brigade’s trucks.
Cpt Bulman said the shed would hopefully be completed within the next three weeks.
“We just have to concrete the floor and install the electrics.
“Then we will move all our works into the shed while we refurbish the old station,” he said.
Cpt Bulman said the $66,000 upgrade would include a new meeting and training room, office and kitchen area and new workshop/storeroom.
“We would like to see the renovations finished by the end of the year but we are relying on community donations.
“This is a big job for us. We have devoted a lot of our spare time to get it finished.
“We’ll be asked to move in there soon if we don’t start spending some time at home.
“But we’ll get there,” he said.
“We’ll enjoy a nice drink when we’re finished.”
Local organisations that have donated to the station include: Steel and Stuff, Ponderosa Timber and Hardware, CSR Bradford Insulation, MMJ Fabrications, Kennedys Sand and Soil, Hardy’s Mitre 10, City of Casey, TGS Sand and Soil, Duckworth Drafting Pty Ltd, Works Infrastructure, Gendore Tractors and Machinery, Coastal Plumbing Services, Bob Brumby, Middendorp Electrical and Data and Browns Sawdust and Shavings.
