Hastings MP Rosy Buchanan, Police Minister Tim Holding and Pearcedale CFA Captain Kevin Sullivan check out one of the new trucks.THE Pearcedale Country Fire Authority (CFA) has bought two new vehicles after generous donations from the local community and the State Government.
The two four-wheel drives, worth a combined $107,000, were handed over at the official opening of the new fire station extension.
Brigade Captain Kevin Sullivan said many CFA and community members had worked on the building extension free of charge.
“Local business got behind us with many donations in kind, and we are particularly thankful to Hillview Quarries for its generous donation,” Mr Sullivan said.
The $40,000 extension has provided more administration, workshop and vehicle space for the growing brigade.
Minister for Police and Emergency Services Tim Holding, who attended the opening, said the State Government’s Community Safety and Emergency Support Program provided $31,000 towards the purchase of one of the four-wheel drives – a slip-on tanker, which can carry 400 litres of water.
The rest of the funding for the extension and new vehicles came from CFA funds and brigade fundraising.
Hastings MP Rosy Buchanan said she was delighted the State Government grant had helped support the brigade.
“It is a measure of the brigade’s standing in the community that so much money, time and goods have been donated to fund this extension and the new vehicles,” Ms Buchanan said.
Pearcedale CFA has served the local community for 65 years.
It has 41 volunteer members, including a junior contingent of 19.
