A GENUINE replica of the 2006 Commonwealth Games Queen’s baton will reside at Lyndhurst Secondary College in Cranbourne North.
The baton was bought by gaming venue Trios Tabaret in Cranbourne through Tabcorp, an official partner of this year’s Commonwealth Games.
The aluminium baton has lights running up and down it and is mounted in a glass case with the history of the Queen’s baton written on the outside.
As a stopover on the Queen’s baton relay, Trios Tabaret general manager Brian Asley said Lyndhurst Secondary College students and teachers had been “absolutely tickled pink” at the donation.
The baton was handed over at a school assembly on Monday and will now be put up in the school foyer for everyone to see.
“Instead of putting it on the wall at Trios, we thought it would be a better position to put it at the school for the students to see, rather than at a gaming venue,” Mr Asley said.
Mr Asley said the baton cost the venue $2000, but would soon become a collector’s item.
He said he believed the baton would be more appreciated and of educational value to the high school students.
