A PEARCEDALE football enthusiast has been nominated for the 2008 Telstra Country Footy Legends competition and is on the way to possibly winning $5000 for her local club.
Pearcedale Baxter Junior Football Club’s Lorna Bock was nominated by club secretary Helen Powell for her many years of volunteering.
Ms Bock, who has been a volunteer at the club for the past eight years, said she was nervous about the nomination.
“If I win the award, the money will go towards purchasing new equipment for the club’s 200 members,” she said.
The Telstra Country Footy Legends competition gives Victorian country football teams the chance to put forward a player, coach or volunteer who displays the true spirit of country football.
The 25 nominees will be narrowed down to the eight finalists with the most online votes, who will go through an interview process with Victorian Country Football League area managers and Telstra representatives to choose the overall winner.
Pearcedale Baxter Junior Football Club president Darren Cann said Ms Bock was the most loyal club supporter, despite never holding a formal position on the committee.
Ms Bock’s husband was the previous president of the club and Mr Cann agreed that behind every great man there was an even better woman. “The whole club has been behind her. We’ve all been voting and hope to see her get over the line,” he said.
The 2008 Telstra Country Footy Legends will be announced online on 17 June and the winner will take home the Legend trophy and $5000 for the club that nominated them.
The game is on to see if Ms Bock will cross the finish line and be crowned 2008 Telstra Country Footy Legend.
