THE Hampton Park Progress Association celebrated its 80th anniversary with a glowing tribute to the members who have made it such a lasting success.
The local community, association affiliates and local MPs turned out at the Arthur Wren Hall for a dinner dance on 11 November to celebrate the work the association had achieved in its eight decades.
The association was created in 1926 by local residents to work on building and providing facilities for residents of Hampton Park, and to this day continues to work for the residents.
More recently the association has been instrumental in obtaining and fighting for many facilities for Hampton Park such as the Arthur Wren Hall, the Casey Cardinia Library branch and traffic lights in the area.
Speeches were plentiful at the anniversary dinner, led by MC Bradford Newbond, with old friends and committee members getting up to talk about past times.
Police Minister and Lyndhurst MP Tim Holding and Labor candidate for Narre Warren South Judith Graley also attended.
Particular congratulations went to those who organised the anniversary dinner – progress association president Warren Calder, secretary Sue Florence, treasurer Tony O’Hara, Arthur Wren Hall booking officer Lorraine Calder and members Dawn Dakin, Ros O’Hara and Gary Florence.
Entertainment was provided by Phoenix.
Mr Newbond said the evening went beautifully with fantastic catering and everyone thoroughly enjoying themselves.
“The association has managed to achieve a lot of what they set out to do. It was a great concept and amazing that we are celebrating their 80th year,” he said.
“For a little committee they really have achieved so much.”
