Name game pool prize

By Glen Atwell
WHAT’S in a name? When it comes to naming the new $37 million Cranbourne Aquatic and Leisure Centre, a one-year membership is on the line.
Casey residents have been invited to suggest a name for the new state-of-the-art water park, due to open mid-next year, and the winning entrant will be able to lap up the glory for a full 12 months.
The competition is open now, and entries must be received by Thursday 31 July.
Entry forms for the naming competition are available from council’s customer service centres at Narre Warren, Cranbourne and Narre Warren South, local libraries and other community outlets, and can also be downloaded from council’s website at www.casey.vic.gov.au.
City of Casey mayor Janet Halsall said the community needed to give the council a hand in naming the centre.
“It’s a wonderful opportunity for someone to have their idea permanently recognised in the City of Casey by naming our outstanding new facility,” she said.
“The person who provides the winning entry will win a full membership at the centre for one year, which means that one lucky person will get to enjoy all the benefits the centre has to offer including waterslides, the fully equipped gym and the 50m lap pool,” Cr Halsall said. ‘I really encourage Casey residents to take part in this fantastic competition to help name Australia’s newest and innovative aquatic and leisure centre.”
The centre will feature a cutting-edge water entertainment area, instead of the wave-pool, which is the centrepiece of the Casey ARC.
A thrill-seeking water slide, a whirlpool and a zero-depth water park will headline the entertainment offerings at the Cranbourne pool.
Solar panels on the exterior and the latest water efficiency technologies will also make the centre one of Australia’s most environmentally friendly water parks.
Recent construction progress at the centre includes:
• The 50-metre pool deck is 95 per cent cast.
• Leisure water area excavation has been completed. The learn-to-swim pool walls are ready to be poured and the whirl pool and toddlers’ pool have been excavated.
• Steel work for the creche area and roofing has begun.
• Steel work over the spa and sauna area is complete and the concrete floor has been installed.
• The car park pavement is 85 per cent complete with preparation for asphalting well underway.
• The beach entry to the leisure water area is ready for concrete to be poured.
