STUDENTS from a Cranbourne school will jet-set to Queensland and get up close and personal with the stars at Movieworld as the school begins its first national drama tour.
A selection of Year 9 to 12 students at Casey Grammar School will spend a week travelling to four local schools on the Gold Coast to perform their play, Riff Raff.
The budding actors have been working on the play for the past eight months.
Casey Grammar School’s drama teacher Natalie Burns said the school was travelling to Queensland in an effort to develop a performing arts program that could travel interstate.
The script was written by Ms Burns and fellow teacher Pam Adams, while the students worked on their acting skills, created the costumes and sets and composed the accompanying music.
The students have been busy rehearsing at least twice a week and have been volunteering their time after school.
Year 11 student Rebecca, 16, said she was looking forward to performing in a different location other than the school’s drama room.
She said her ultimate dream was to become an actor.
The students will also get the chance to take part in Movieworld’s educational program where they will further develop their acting skills.
However local residents won’t have to travel to Queensland to see the production; Casey Grammar School will be holding two performances of Riff Raff at the Salvation Army auditorium in Cranbourne on the 16 and 17 June.
Tickets cost $5 per person and can be purchased at the door.
