FANS in the outer at Casey Fields will soon have somewhere to stand.
The State Government has committed $538,000 to improve spectator facilities on the outer side of the VFL oval.
Casey Scorpions and Cranbourne Eagles supporters will have plenty to cheer about when additional terracing and amenities are constructed as part of the ground redevelopment.
The City of Casey and AFL are both kicking in $200,000 to help with refurbishment, which Scorpions general manager Brian Woodman said would make the ground more comfortable for fans.
“We’ve secured significant funding to develop some covered terraced standing areas and toilet facilities on the outer side of the ground,” he said.
“We want to provide more opportunities for spectators to move around the ground, especially in inclement weather.”
Mr Woodman said the club hoped to eventually provide around-the-ground seating for fans of local footy.
“With the funding we’ve got, we’ll split this project into three stages. There’s more to come,” he said.
Casey CEO Mike Tyler told News that the council had not received any advice about the funding announcement, but said it was consistent with the $10 million committed to “redeveloping suburban VFL grounds and training facilities.”
