Play money adds to the fun

PLAYGROUPS in Casey celebrated the World’s Biggest Playgroup Day with a number of activities across the municipality last Wednesday.
Local centres had another reason to cheer with an $110,000-a-year funding boost for Casey playgroups announced by the state government on the same day.
Centro Cranbourne hosted playgroup activities for parents and their children, and a children’s performance was held at the nearby Balla Balla Centre.
At the launch of playgroup day in Melbourne, the Minister for Children and Early Childhood Development, Maxine Morand, announced a total of $788,000 in additional on-going funding.
“About 50,000 Victorian children from 40,000 families are already discovering the world of opportunities on offer through play groups,” she said.
“This latest funding boost will ensure families, including those that have recently arrived in Victoria, can access the support they require in a safe and comfortable environment.”
The $788,000 will be distributed among 14 local councils, each receiving between $26,000 and $110,000 a year.
