HAMPTON Park’s Allan March is not car mad but doesn’t mind a bit of woodwork.
The retired cabinet maker has put his passion for timber to good use by making a replica of Volvo’s first car out of wood.
The incredible structure, which stands at just 30 centimetres high and 90 centimetres long, took Mr March a year on and off to complete.
Mr March is a regular at the Hampton Park Seniors and Hampton Park Bowls Club and fills much of his time bowling, line dancing or helping out around the club with various handy man work.
He took the Volvo Jakob 1927 model down to the clubs and was surprised at their reaction.
“They were very pleased and suggested I put it in a local show,” he said.
The car was made completely out of timber apart from springs and wheels, which he bought.
Mr March said he had worked on the car little by little over the course of a year.
“I like to keep active,” he said.
“This was something to do to keep me occupied.”
Mr March said he had not yet decided on his next project.
