Teddies go to school

By Sarah Schwager
TEDDY bears made the trip to Devon Meadows Primary School last week for a special picnic with potential new preps.
Preschoolers and their parents explored the school before joining in a Teddy Bear’s Picnic on Wednesday last as part of the school’s Education Week celebrations.
It was also the first use of the school’s new outdoor performing area, which comes with stage, synthetic lawn and viewing area.
Principal Peter Hicks said there was an excellent response from parents and children, and many had already enrolled at the school.
The day was full of activities such as a tour of the school facilities, with the parents and kids welcome to pop into the classes, and an information night.
The preschoolers were also treated to a musical performance from grade two students.
Also as part of Education Week, on Friday the classes participated in buddy grade activities, with the older children showing the young ones how things are done.
There was a parents’ and grandparents’ open day earlier in the week and a display at Centro Cranbourne Shopping Centre.
On Thursday, two rock bands performed at the shopping centre.
“It was a fantastic performance,” Mr Hicks said.
“Each year the rock band re-forms and goes on tour through Gippsland and around Victoria.
“This was the first out-of-school performance by the band.
“Also on Monday the rock band performed for the school, its first performance this year.”
