Seven awarded defence medals

SEVEN local defence force members were presented with the Australian Defence Force Medal in a ceremony at the Cranbourne RSL on Monday.
Holt MP Anthony Byrne hosted the ceremony, which recognised the contribution of Australian Defence Force members to Australia.
The defence medal is awarded to regular and reserve force members who have completed their initial enlistment period or four years service, since World War II.
Mr Byrne said the medal recognised the service of members of the defence force, past and present, and highlighted their significant contribution to the nation.
“Members of the Australian Defence Forces often contribute in unseen and unrecognised ways,” he said.
“It’s an honour on behalf of our community to express gratitude to all those that serve our country.
“It’s particularly important, in the lead up to Anzac Day, to recognise the sacrifice and conviction of our Australian Defence Force personnel.”
Cranbourne RSL president Barry Jones, Casey Regional Veterans Welfare Service representative Denny Van Maanenberg and military member Captain Dale Hopcraft all assisted in the medal presentations.
The next Australian Defence Medal presentation ceremony will be held prior to Remembrance Day in November.
Any current or former Australian Defence Force member requiring more information can contact Anthony Byrne on 9796 7533.
