Seeds planted for funding boosts

AFTER the success of this year’s Primary School Environmental Expo, Casey Council will attempt to increase funding for the event.
The funding increase from $18,000 to $25,000 will be referred to the 2006/07 Budget for consideration.
Balla Balla Ward councillor Colin Butler told last week’s council meeting that the expo had been so successful that the facilities only just coped with the number of people who attended. He said the budget would need to be increased to cope with the additional people that would no doubt attend next year’s event.
Deputy mayor Rob Wilson said he had attended the expo and it had been a fantastic event. “The kids had a ball. They really learnt a lot,” Cr Wilson said.
Councillor Janet Halsall also asked for funding to initiate the preparation of a Significant Tree Register for planning protection to be considered in the next budget.
Both funding considerations were carried at last week’s council meeting.
