CASEY residents have been encouraged to roll up their sleeves for the Australian Red Cross campaign Operation Lifeblood.
During May, June and July, the Red Cross is urging locals to give blood in their latest donor recruitment campaign.
Convenor for the Parliamentary Friends of Red Cross, Flinders MP Greg Hunt, said every time someone gave blood they could save up to three lives.
“One in three people will need blood in their lifetime, but only one in thirty people actually give blood,” Mr Hunt said.
“Blood donations are also used for premature babies, expectant mums, burn victims, trauma and emergency purposes.”
About 30 per cent of all blood donations go to people who have cancer, 15 per cent goes to people with heart disease and another 15 per cent goes to people with stomach and bowel disease. To book call 13 1495 or visit www.operationlifeblood.com to register.
