Postcode change plea dropped

CRANBOURNE North will keep its postcode despite calls from frustrated residents for change.
Casey Council has rejected a request from residents in Conway Street to change the postcode for Cranbourne North or renumber properties in nearby Conway Court.
Residents claim they are continually losing their mail because of confusion with Conway Court in Cranbourne and say they have had enough.
Councillors voted against a proposal to rename Conway Court earlier this year but agreed to erect new signage on both streets clearly indicating Cranbourne North and Cranbourne.
Council also wrote to Australia Post asking for more care and attention when delivering mail to either street.
However, a report to last week’s council meeting said that it was inappropriate to change the postcode of Cranbourne North as only one street was affected.
“Such a change has potential to affect a large number of residents who have not been given an opportunity to comment on the proposal,” the report said.
“In addition, it establishes a precedent for other similar areas which currently share the Cranbourne postcode.”
It said the alternative suggestion to change house numbers in Conway Court would do little or nothing to resolve the problems in the street and most likely frustrate its residents.
“There is undoubtedly some confusion with the naming of roads, however changes could also have impacts.
“As such it is considered that the approaches not be supported,” the report said.
