POLICE have applauded Cranbourne Cup day patrons for their behaviour at the races last Sunday.
An estimated 8000 people packed into the course with police arresting two men in their late 20s on the day.
Senior Sergeant Bruce Kitchen said no arrests were made inside the racetrack, with two men apprehended outside the course near Grant Street for drunken behaviour.
“Generally it was good. The no BYO policy was strictly enforced,” Sen Sgt Kitchen said.
One altercation between several men occurred during and after the second-last race of the day, with police reacting quickly to the minor violence.
“There was a mixture of people on the day including a number of families,” Sen Sgt Kitchen said.
He said there was slight traffic congestion, with hundreds of cars exiting the car park on to Sladen Street after the feature race.
“The duplication of Sladen Street will be finished by next year’s event and this will ensure better traffic flow,” Sen Sgt Kitchen said.
