Party in the park

CELEBRATE the birth of a nation at the Australia Day Family Festival in Hampton Park.
Organised by members of the Hampton Park Australia Day Committee and local volunteers, the event will be held on 26 January in the grounds of Arthur Wren Hall and Hampton Park Library from noon to 3pm.
Visitors can enjoy a free barbecue, face painting, roving entertainers, live music and food stalls as well as a flag-raising ceremony led by Casey councillors and local politicians.
Committee member Warren Calder said he was excited to bring Australia Day festivities to such a culturally diverse area as Hampton Park.
“We think this way of celebrating an important day will have appeal,” he said.
“The overall aim is to convey the sense of occasion in a way that is culturally relevant and do it by way of local groups and volunteers uniting and being visible in their community.”
Organiser Tony O’Hara said the festival was a great day to share with the entire family.
“It’s a chance for people who are new to the area to meet their neighbours and connect.
“People can bring their friends and participate in a great range of family-based activities,” he said.
