AN OLD school has been given a new lease on life.
The building in which generations of youngsters from Monomeith and Tooradin North learned their lessons has been lovingly restored and now takes pride of place in the historical precinct along the foreshore at Tooradin.
The school building will be officially opened by City of Casey mayor Neil Lucas at 9.30am this Saturday (22 October).
Cranbourne Historical Society member and school curator/caretaker Rosemary Mynard said all were welcome to enjoy the celebration. The building served as the Monomeith State School from 1924 to 1933 and then became the Tooradin North State School.
It was later used as a country campus for visiting schools from Melbourne and was privately owned for a time before it was donated to the historical society.
Rosemary said the building had been restored by a hardworking and enthusiastic team.
The opening celebrations will include a dance at the Tooradin hall on the Saturday night where a new floor will be put to good use.
“We’ve got a very good band playing and it’s only $10 entry.
“All are welcome and we are hoping for a fun night,” Rosemary said.
