Netballer fends off assailant

By Sarah Schwager
A WOMAN was lucky to escape unscathed after she was attacked outside the Cranbourne Basketball Stadium last week.
The 20-year-old Kooweerup woman had left the stadium last Thursday night after playing netball when she remembered she had left some jewellery behind and returned.
She went back inside the stadium, retrieved the jewellery and was walking back to her car when she noticed a man in the carpark.
Police said she heard a noise behind her before the man grabbed her and pushed her up against the car.
The man then demanded she hand over her wallet but she was able to fend him off until someone came out of the stadium and the man fled.
Police said she was very lucky to escape unharmed.
The incident happened about 9.10pm at the Berwick-Cranbourne Road site.
The man was described as Caucasian, 175 centimetres, of solid build, with black hair and a fair complexion.
Any witnesses are urged to contact Detective Senior Constable Ray Ross at Cranbourne CIU on 5995 4577.
