Budding Spielbergs in the spotlight

LIGHTS, camera, action!
Monday night was showtime for a talented group of Cranbourne Secondary College VCE students who attended the screening of their own movies.
The 16th Annual Cranbourne Film Festival was a culmination of 10 months of writing scripts, producing, directing and editing by the year 12 media studies class.
Year 12 media studies teacher George Massouris said this year’s event had produced some of the best talent yet, with films ranging from the usual horror to action and reallife drama.
“Each year they spend 10 months making their own movies, including writing, producing, directing and publishing.
“They work on their own, organising their own crew and budget,” he said.
Mr Massouris said students loved taking part in the project, with many taking the opportunity to kick start a career in the film industry.
“The film festival is a chance for them to display all their hard work and start their portfolios,” he said.
“Some use it as a springboard to go on and get into the industry. For many this class is the one thing they love about school.”
