Brigade fired up for day

CRANBOURNE Fire Station will check the hoses and test the sirens when it holds a community open day on Sunday 4 May.
The station will open its door to the community from 10am to 3pm with a day filled with activities such as operational fire fighting demonstrations, a smoke house simulator, community safety messages, static displays, vintage fire engines and a sausage sizzle.
The local police, traffic police and ambulance service will also be there to display some of their equipment and vehicles.
The community will get the opportunity to watch a road accident rescue demonstration and tour the station.
Community education sessions will also be held relating to house and bush fires.
Cranbourne Fire Station fire officer Phillip Charles said the aim of the open day was to allow the community to meet and interact with the local fire brigade.
He said they wanted to reinforce the fire safety message.
“We’ll be talking about the importance of smoke alarms and the smoke house simulator will give families the opportunity to learn how to get out of a house safely,” he said.
