CRANBOURNE is the first stop on the 1200 kilometre Tour de Cure bike ride from Melbourne to Sydney on 31 March.
Now in its second year, the marathon aims to involve the community to raise money for cancer research. From 2007 to 2010, organisers said the Tour de Cure aimed to raise at least $2 million.
Training has begun for the team of 35 people, aged from 19 to 50. They will travel for nine days, starting at 4.30am each morning, and stopping at designated points from Melbourne’s Flinders Street Station to Sydney’s Bondi Junction.
The fundraiser is a joint project of the Prostate Cancer Foundation of Australia, the Breast Cancer Foundation and Camp Quality.
The riders are appealing for donations, which so far have paid for the inaugural Fighting Prostate Cancer Round Table regional conference, sponsored the latest technology for breast tissue research and analysis, and provided fitness activities at Camp Quality camps.
