Beaconsfield crash claims life

By Callan Date
A CRANBOURNE couple has paid tribute to their only son whose life was cut tragically short when he died in a collision last Thursday night.
Greg Davies, 30, was just under a kilometre from his Upper Beaconsfield home when his Nissan utility left the road near a bend on Split Rock Road and collided with trees.
Greg’s parents, Cranbourne’s Ken and Barbara Davies, remembered their son fondly.
“He was kicking goals left, right and centre. He had just married Alison and his business was going really well,” Mr Davies said.
He said Greg had been running his own irrigation company for the last nine years and was really starting to succeed in his trade.
“He was very good at his job – very good at what he did,” he said.
“The police have told me he didn’t die from the impact of the crash but from a small irrigation fitting that flew from the back of the ute and hit him in the back of the head,” Mr Davies said.
He said Greg loved children and had an ambition to become a father in the near future.
“He was great with kids and they absolutely just loved being around him. He was really popular with everyone.”
Mr Davies, a sergeant at Cheltenham Police station, said the family had decided to ask for donations to the Royal Children’s Hospital in lieu of flowers at Greg’s funeral.
“Greg would have loved that. Knowing that he was able to help out children in some way.”
The proud father said his son was an active sportsman during his junior years and played several different sports with great success.
“He played junior footy with Devon Meadows. He also played squash and he was great at little athletics,” Mr Davies said.
The funeral service for Greg Davies will be held at Victoria Police Academy Chapel today (Thursday) at 11am.
A burial will then follow at Berwick Cemetery.
